HIPAA Regulations Online Course

Course Rationale - HIPAA Compliance

This course focuses on HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act signed into law on August 21, 1996.

To comply with HIPAA, faculty and staff must learn HIPAA’s privacy and security requirements and follow them. Federal laws mandate that UCD educate all members of its health care components about the HIPAA principles.

Course Objectives: Using HIPAA Principles

In this course faculty and staff will learn:

  • The importance of HIPAA regulations to health care and individual privacy;
  • How to prevent impermissible access or disclosure of protected health information (PHI);
  • What individuals and groups may access PHI, and how much they may access;
  • How to safeguard health information in your workplace.

Mastering these objectives will help faculty and staff correctly implement the HIPAA regulations, the first step in HIPAA compliance.
